Association Submits Comments on CY 2014 OPPS Proposed Rule

America’s Essential Hospitals submitted comments Sept. 6 to the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) on the calendar year (CY) 2014 outpatient prospective payment system (OPPS) proposed rule. In its comments, America’s Essential Hospitals suggests CMS convene a workgroup that includes the hospital industry to better understand the type of care provided in off-campus outpatient departments. Also, the association urges CMS to delay its proposal to collapse existing levels of outpatient visit codes and replace them with three new codes, one for clinic visits and one for each of the two types of emergency department visits, until the agency can provide information hospitals can use to evaluate the impact of and meaningfully comment on this proposal.
