America’s Essential Hospitals President & CEO: Some Health Plans Excluding Essential Hospitals From Their Networks

America’s Essential Hospitals President and CEO Bruce Siegel, MD, MPH, told The New York Times in a Sept. 22 story that some members of America’s Essential Hospitals are being left out of plan networks in the new health insurance marketplaces (exchanges). Siegel noted that some plan networks are only covering selected services or offering very low rates for essential hospitals. Such narrow plan networks will limit the number of providers consumers can see and may lead to higher out-of-pocket costs. America’s Essential Hospitals remains concerned about this issue and continues to monitor it closely.
