America’s Essential Hospitals participated last week in a Safety Net Hospitals for Pharmaceutical Access (SNHPA) media briefing on a new report that corrects misinformation about the 340B drug pricing program and underscores the program’s benefits to vulnerable patients.
SNHPA organized the July 9 telebriefing to launch the report, Setting the Record Straight on 340B – A Response to Critics, and its companion website, 340Bfacts.com. The report includes documented, independent research confirming 340B hospitals use their savings to improve health care services and lower the costs of medicines, particularly to vulnerable patient populations.
America’s Essential Hospitals President and CEO Bruce Siegel, MD, MPH; SNHPA President and CEO Ted Slafsky, MPP; National Rural Health Association Vice President of Government Affairs and Policy Maggie Elehwany, JD; and SNHPA Founder and Outside Counsel William von Oehsen, JD, MTS, offered remarks during the briefing. Siegel focused on the 340B program’s benefits to patients and the hospitals on which they depend for care. He noted that savings achieved through 340B reach far beyond drug discounts and support a broad variety of services to the disadvantaged.
