America’s Essential Hospitals Leaders Discuss Medicaid DSH Cuts, ECPs With Administration

America’s Essential Hospitals President and CEO Bruce Siegel, MD, MPH, and Assistant Vice President for Legislative Affairs Shawn Gremminger, MPP, met with senior advisors of the White House Domestic Policy Council on Tuesday, Sept. 24. Siegel and Gremminger highlighted the importance of delaying and ultimately reconsidering scheduled cuts to Medicaid DSH, which begin Oct. 1, 2014. The president has proposed a one-year delay in his fiscal year 2014 budget request. They also discussed the importance of securing access for vulnerable patients by ensuring that essential hospitals – all of whom are defined as essential community providers (ECPs) under Affordable Care Act regulations – are included in marketplace health plans.
