America’s Essential Hospitals this week launched a new political action committee (PAC) – Essential Hospitals PAC – for congressional candidates who support essential hospitals and issues important to health care access for the vulnerable.
“Low-income and other vulnerable people, and those who care for them, can face an uphill battle in Washington, especially when competing for the attention of busy lawmakers,” said Bruce Siegel, MD, MPH, president and CEO of America’s Essential Hospitals. “Essential Hospitals PAC will help our member hospitals pool their resources and build a united voice on behalf of people who, on their own, struggle to find a voice in the policymaking process.”
The nonpartisan Essential Hospitals PAC will support congressional candidates who champion policies that improve access to the high-quality health care essential hospitals provide. PAC Chair William Walker, MD, director and health officer of Contra Costa Health Services, said the PAC will help level the playing field in Washington for essential hospitals and further empower association members to participate in the political process.
“Essential Hospitals PAC is one more tool to engage members of Congress on issues important to our member hospitals and their patients,” Walker said. “Through the PAC, we will demonstrate our commitment to the ongoing service of lawmakers who support essential hospitals and their patients and communities.”
