Agencies to Issue Guidance to Ensure HIV Care Coordination

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Office of Civil Rights will issue best practices for hospitals to ensure that patients living with HIV have equal access to comprehensive care through its National HIV/AIDS Strategy Federal Action Plan.

As part of the recently released plan, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services also will provide information to state Medicaid directors on the latest treatment guidelines and program flexibility available to increase access to HIV testing and care coordination for patients with HIV.

The plan presents immediate actions federal agencies can take to help the nation improve its HIV prevention and care outcomes. The success of the strategy requires partnerships between stakeholders to maximize their efforts and better coordinate their responses for HIV prevention.
