Nearly 1,300 Sign Up for New BPCI Advanced Model

Nearly 1,300 entities, including 832 acute-care hospitals, have signed agreements to participate in the new Bundled Payments for Care Improvement (BPCI) Advanced model, according to a list of participants released by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS).

CMS introduced the model in January; it builds on the previous BPCI model that ended in September.

The BPCI Advanced model bundles payments for certain episodes of care as an alternative to fee-for-service payments. The new voluntary model is intended to promote value in care delivery. The new model runs from Oct. 1, 2018, through Dec. 31, 2023.
