Applications for the Quality Payment Program (QPP) hardship exception for the 2017 transition year now are available online and are due by Oct. 1.
For Merit-based Incentive Payment System (MIPS) eligible clinicians and groups, hardship exceptions are available due to:
- insufficient internet connectivity;
- extreme and uncontrollable circumstances; and
- lack of control over the availability of certified electronic health record (EHR) technology.
In addition, eligible professionals can apply for a one-time hardship exception if they are first-time participants in the Medicare EHR Incentive Program.
Clinicians and groups qualifying for a hardship-exception could have their advancing care information performance category score re-weighted to zero percent of their score.
America’s Essential Hospitals has established a resource page dedicated to quality payment programs. Visit this page regularly for new and updated information.
