Applications Open for 2017 QPP Hardship Exception

Applications for the Quality Payment Program (QPP) hardship exception for the 2017 transition year now are available online and are due by Oct. 1.

For Merit-based Incentive Payment System (MIPS) eligible clinicians and groups, hardship exceptions are available due to:

  • insufficient internet connectivity;
  • extreme and uncontrollable circumstances; and
  • lack of control over the availability of certified electronic health record (EHR) technology.

In addition, eligible professionals can apply for a one-time hardship exception if they are first-time participants in the Medicare EHR Incentive Program.

Clinicians and groups qualifying for a hardship-exception could have their advancing care information performance category score re-weighted to zero percent of their score.

America’s Essential Hospitals has established a resource page dedicated to quality payment programs. Visit this page regularly for new and updated information.
