Hospitals participating in the 2013 Medicare Electronic Health Record (EHR) Incentive Program must attest that they have meaningfully used certified EHR technology by Nov. 30 to receive payment. The program provides payments to eligible hospitals and professionals to encourage them to adopt, implement, upgrade, and use EHR technology to improve patient care. Eligible hospitals include those that are paid under the inpatient prospective payment system (IPPS) and critical access hospitals.
Similarly, the Medicaid EHR Incentive Program provides payments to eligible hospitals for using and improving EHR technology to increase the quality and efficiency of patient care. Medicaid EHR eligible hospitals include acute care hospitals (including critical access hospitals and cancer hospitals) with at least 10 percent Medicaid patient volume and children’s hospitals. Eligible hospitals should refer to their state deadlines for attestation.
