14.5M Americans Enroll in Marketplace Coverage

A record 14.5 million Americans have signed up for health coverage through the Affordable Care Act marketplace for 2022, including 5.8 million people who newly gained coverage.

Due to additional subsidies provided by the American Rescue Plan, 32 percent of consumers using the federal marketplace selected a plan that costs them $10 or less per month.

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services released a report detailing total marketplace enrollment by state.

Open enrollment lasted from Nov. 1, 2021, through Jan. 15, 2022, for 33 states using healthcare.gov and many states using state-based exchanges. Enrollment remains open through Jan. 31 in California, the District of Columbia, Kentucky, New Jersey, New York, and Rhode Island. Consumers who experience certain life changes might qualify for a special enrollment period.
