This week is Patient Safety Awareness Week (March 2-8), an annual campaign led by the National Patient Safety Foundation (NPSF) to promote education and raise awareness around patient safety.

According to NPSF, this year’s theme, “Navigate Your Health…Safely,” highlights why it is essential to engage patients and consumers in the health care process, regardless of whether they are undergoing a routine physical or a more complex surgery. Within this year’s theme, NPSF is placing a special emphasis on diagnostic errors, which the organization says may account for up to 80,000 deaths yearly in the U.S.

In recognition of Patient Safety Awareness Week, we plan to feature patient safety improvement stories from essential hospitals nationwide. Please visit the blog this week to read about their experiences and participate in this important conversation.
