Maryland Gov. Wes Moore (D) on July 3 announced new Medicaid benefits that expand pregnancy care coverage, support community violence intervention, and increase access to certified peer recovery services.
“These new benefits will help improve the well-being of Maryland Medicaid participants and contribute to the overall health of Maryland communities,” said Gov. Moore. “The new benefits mark a significant milestone in Medicaid’s ongoing efforts to ensure accessible and inclusive health care for all Marylanders.”
Efforts to expand pregnancy care coverage include the Healthy Babies initiative, which will provide comprehensive pregnancy and postpartum coverage to eligible individuals regardless of immigration status.
Maryland is the second state to receive approval for a Community Violence Prevention Coverage program. Covered services include conflict mediation, crisis intervention, and screening services for victims of violence.
Additionally, Medicaid may reimburse certified peer recovery specialists that provide substance use disorder services at eligible programs licensed by the Behavioral Health Administration, in an effort to expand the provider base.
