Health equity is gaining momentum as an important topic for providers and their practices. Essential hospitals and health systems are striving to reduce disparities in health and health care by providing care that is equitable and culturally competent.
There is a wide variety of resources and tools that support providers in achieving this goal. Some tools allow providers to assess readiness or evaluate performance. Others, such as the Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (HCAHPS) survey, aim to capture patient experience and perceptions of equity.
To better capture and disseminate the available resources, Essential Hospitals Institute has compiled a compendium of health equity tools that can be useful to essential providers as they pursue health equity goals. The compendium features a list of tools and resources related to patient assessment of equitable care and provider evaluation of health equity practices, as well as peer-reviewed journal articles related to these areas.
