The National Institutes of Health’s National Institute on Aging (NIA) has announced two new funding opportunities to recognize emerging physicians and health professional investigators focused on aging and aging-related diseases.
The Paul B. Beeson Emerging Leaders Career Development Award provides $2 million to early-stage investigators to advance their research and leadership skills in their specialty and in the broader geriatrics field. Unlike other career development awards, candidates for the Beeson award must have received competitively awarded research support as a program director or principal investigator at the faculty level, or have leveraged faculty-level research support for independent research.
NIA is offering two awards:
- one for applicants to lead an independent clinical trial, clinical trial feasibility study, or separate ancillary study; and
- one for applicants not planning an independent clinical trial or those who seek to gain research experience in a clinical trial led by another investigator.
Applications are due Oct. 22 at 5 pm local time of applicant organization, with a projected start date in July 2020.
