NAM Invites Organizations to Join Climate Collaborative

The National Academy of Medicine (NAM) invites organizations to formally commit to addressing climate change by becoming network organizations in its Action Collaborative on Decarbonizing the U.S. Health Sector.

The collaborative is a public-private partnership of organizations committed to strengthening the health sector’s sustainability and resilience. The health sector is responsible for 8.5 percent of carbon emissions in the United States, and improving its carbon footprint can have significant health, social, and economic benefits.

Network organizations in the collaborative:

  • are listed on the collaborative’s webpage with an organizational commitment statement describing their current or future work to mitigate climate change;
  • receive regular updates on the collaborative’s work, including priority invitations to public meetings and advance notice of new resources and publications;
  • have the opportunity to provide input on collaborative activities;
  • are invited to participate in networking and information-sharing opportunities; and
  • receive communications tools to share with their own networks.

Participants are expected to:

  • actively take part in the collaborative’s work by attending meetings and responding to requests for information;
  • share annual updates with the collaborative about the network organization’s work on climate change;
  • share evidence-informed actions, strategies, and practices to be considered for amplification across NAM networks; and
  • share announcements about collaborative work and support its social media and public engagement campaigns.
