In a new report, Essential Hospitals Institute summarizes how essential hospitals are responding to the COVID-19 pandemic in some of the nation’s hardest-hit communities.
The report, Essential Hospitals: COVID-19 Status, details how members of America’s Essential Hospitals activated emergency plans and expanded capacity to perform testing, care for sick patients, and coordinate with community partners to meet individual and community needs while ensuring the safety of patients and staff.
Essential hospitals face persistent resource challenges and dire financial consequences due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Yet, they continue to seek innovative solutions to supply shortages and prevent the spread of infection. Telehealth has proved a vital tool to continue serving patients during the pandemic. Essential hospitals also are participating in clinical trials of new treatments and public health solutions. True to their mission, they continue to emphasize and meet the needs of vulnerable people, who are disproportionately at risk for harm from COVID-19.
As the pandemic and its impact evolve, the Institute will update this document to reflect noteworthy developments.
