In an Aug. 25 communication to a key congressional health committee, America’s Essential Hospitals said national drug shortages disproportionately harm essential hospitals, and it refuted claims that the 340B Drug Pricing Program contributes to shortages.
The association’s comments responded to a request for feedback on a discussion draft led by House Committee on Energy and Commerce Chair Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-Wash.) regarding policies to address drug shortages.
In its feedback, America’s Essential Hospitals commended Congress for its interest in the drug shortage issue. In its defense of the 340B program, the association also pointed to the many ways 340B savings support patient care.
Health Care Task Force
The House Budget Committee last week announced a new health care task force meant to reduce health spending. It will be led by Rep. Michael Burgess (R-Texas) and includes as members Reps. Drew Ferguson (R-Ga.), Buddy Carter (R-Ga.), Lloyd Smucker (R-Pa.), Blake Moore (R-Utah), and Rudy Yakym (R-Ind.).
2024 Presidential Election
The first Republican presidential debate of the 2024 election cycle took place last Wednesday. Health was notably absent from the discussion, save for abortion restrictions and fentanyl.
