America’s Essential Hospitals
WASHINGTON — Congressional leaders made the right choice today to withdraw their legislation to repeal the Affordable Care Act. With health care coverage for tens of millions of Americans in the balance, this was a sound decision.
We know challenges remain to ensuring access to affordable, comprehensive health care coverage for all people. We urge Congress and the administration to use today’s decision as an opportunity to work on bipartisan solutions to these challenges.
We look forward to working with policymakers to ensure stability for the insurance marketplace, essential hospitals, and other safety-net providers. This can start with averting damaging cuts this year to Medicaid disproportionate share hospital payments and supporting programs that protect care for disadvantaged Americans.
With their long experience caring for vulnerable patients, our hospitals stand ready to serve as a resource as policymakers design a plan that achieves these goals and promotes innovation to improve care and reduce costs. All Americans and their families deserve a secure future that includes good health and the best possible health care.
