America’s Essential Hospitals
We appreciate the willingness of the Energy and Commerce Committee to reach out to stakeholders and make meaningful changes to proposed 340B program legislation. But even with these revisions, we remain deeply concerned this legislation will weaken the program and harm access to affordable medications and health care services for vulnerable patients.
For these reasons, we oppose including legislative changes to the 340B program in the 21st Century Cures bill.
The 340B program supports access to lifesaving drugs, primary care, and other services for low-income and other disadvantaged patients. The savings it creates help essential hospitals, governments, and communities stretch scarce resources, as Congress intended when it established the program more than two decades ago.
We caution against rushing into changes that could undermine this valuable program. We urge committee members to reject the inclusion of 340B language in the 21st Century Cures legislation, and we look forward to working with lawmakers to strengthen the 340B program and other support for those most in need.
