Statement on House Vote to Reauthorize PAHPA

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

WASHINGTON — Today’s House vote to reauthorize the Pandemic and All-Hazards Preparedness and Innovation Act (PAHPA) marks a commitment to invest in the nation’s disaster response and public health infrastructure.

Essential hospitals form a critical part of the nation’s emergency health care infrastructure by providing trauma services, teaching disaster readiness, coordinating preparedness efforts, and offering specialty services, such as poison and burn centers. With a commitment to caring for all people, including those who face financial and social hardships, essential hospitals often are the first site of care in public health emergencies.

The Hospital Preparedness Program, under PAHPA, provides vital funding and support for hospitals amid public health crises, allowing essential hospitals to continue providing specialized care to those who need it most. We urge the Senate to act swiftly to reauthorize funding for this crucial program.
