America’s Essential Hospitals
WASHINGTON — We are deeply saddened by the tragic death of UF Health Jacksonville CEO Leon Haley Jr. MD, MHSA. Dr. Haley was an exceptional leader, a passionate voice for health equity, an accomplished scholar, and a dear friend of our association.
As a tireless advocate for patients and essential hospitals, Dr. Haley contributed in countless ways to our mission — especially our work to reduce health disparities and address social factors that determine health. As a former chair of our Essential Hospitals Institute board of directors and, more recently, as a member of our association board, Dr. Haley brought vision and thoughtful leadership to our work and inspired all around him.
He had deep roots in America’s Essential Hospitals, including as a graduate of our Fellows Program, which develops rising leaders in member hospitals. His dedication to achieving the best outcomes for all defined his career and his role with this association.
Our hearts go out to Dr. Haley’s family, friends, and UF Health colleagues. We have lost a true champion. We rededicate ourselves to his work.
