The Biden administration in January released the first-ever Federal Evidence Agenda on Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, and Intersex (LGBTQI+) Equity. This evidence agenda was developed in response to a June 2022 executive order on LGBTQI+ equality and will guide the administration’s work to expand federal collection of data about sexual orientation, gender identity, and sex characteristics.

To advance this agenda, the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) on Feb. 10, 2023, released a request for information on promising practices for advancing health equity for intersex individuals. Ultimately, HHS looks to ensure access to affirming, high-quality care for intersex people.

HHS seeks comments from stakeholders throughout the scientific research community, clinical practice communities, patient and family advocates, scientific or professional organizations, federal partners, internal HHS stakeholders, and other interested constituents on the development of a report on promising practices for advancing health equity for intersex individuals.
