America’s Essential Hospitals Members Committed to COVID-19 Vaccine Equity
Essential hospitals have led the nation in promoting equitable distribution of COVID-19 vaccines, especially for people who face barriers to care. They have promoted vaccination through mass vaccination sites, targeted community initiatives, and educational campaigns created with community partners.
Now, with the emergence of the delta variant and the resulting spike in hospitalizations, vaccination equity and access take on even greater urgency. The nearly 70 health systems listed below, representing 177 essential hospitals, have signed a pledge to fight racial and ethnic disparities in health care by ensuring equitable distribution of COVID-19 vaccines.
This pledge is just one part of a broader association initiative to combat structural racism.
Essential Hospitals Vaccine Equity CommitmentMembers of America’s Essential Hospitals are trusted providers of high-quality health care for all and share a mission to promote equity and eliminate disparities in health and health care. Essential hospitals dedicate significant resources to programs and services outside their walls to improve the health of communities. The COVID-19 public health emergency has cast a harsh light on racial and ethnic disparities, as the pandemic has disproportionately impacted low-income communities. Making matters worse, these communities are underrepresented in terms of COVID-19 vaccination rates. As an essential hospital responding to our nation’s needs during the COVID-19 pandemic, we commit to:
