Essential Communities, an educational hub for essential hospitals and others interested in how a community can foster health, now includes a section dedicated to structural racism.
Essential Hospitals Institute recognizes the deep racial and ethnic inequities that exist today are a direct result of structural racism: the historical and contemporary policies, practices, and norms that create and reinforce ways to perpetuate racial group inequity. Structural racism is a social determinant of health, as well as a root cause of many other social determinants of health.
The Resource Library covers strategies, such as multisector partnership, program implementation, and more, to target social determinants of health, including structural racism.
The Institute continues to add resources and tools to help our members. Submit your hospital or health system’s resources to be highlighted on the Essential Communities Resource Library through this online form.
