Sample Contact List
An America’s Essential Hospitals member recommended that hospitals prepare a list of local emergency contacts and resources, including:
- emergency medical service providers/dispatch and contracted patient transport services, in case the hospital must evacuate before the storm;
- contact numbers for hospitals not located in the affected area to which they may want to transport patients pre-storm, with contracts in place;
- other area hospital numbers;
- local mayor and governor emergency management contacts;
- state and local police and first responders;
- National Guard (in some cases, that request would go through the city or state emergency management contact);
- American Red Cross;
- Federal Emergency Support Function (ESF)8 contacts;
- State Office of Public Health;
- the hospital’s insurance carrier;
- the hospital’s major suppliers;
- dialysis center locations; and
- shelter locations and numbers.
