The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) on Aug. 29, 2022, finalized its decision to delay indefinitely the current start date of the Radiation Oncology (RO) Model.

The RO Model, which was scheduled to begin Jan. 1, 2023, aims to improve the quality of care for cancer patients receiving radiotherapy and offer a simplified and predictable payment system.

CMS originally proposed the demonstration in 2019 and last delayed it in December 2021. In the case CMS proposes the demonstration again, the agency said it will provide at least six months’ notice before the new start date.
