The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) established the Managed Care Group (MCG) under the Center for Medicaid and CHIP Services (CMCS) to serve more than 93 million Medicaid and Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) beneficiaries.

The reorganization shifts into MCG two divisions from existing groups: the Division of Managed Care Policy in the Disabled and Elderly Health Programs Group (DEHPG) and the Division of Managed Care Operations (DMCO) in the Medicaid and CHIP Operations Group. The reorganization also establishes a fourth branch in DMCO and renames DEHPG to the Medicaid Benefits and Health Programs Group.

MCG will monitor and provide technical assistance to states and territories to support their Medicaid and CHIP managed care programs. The group also will oversee program policy for traditional managed care programs under state plan and waiver authorities to ensure access, quality, and financial accountability while supporting delivery system reform.
