1. WHAT IS MOTILIUM 10 mg Film-coated Tablet AND WHAT IS IT USED FOR?
Domperidone is used to treat nausea (urge to vomit) and vomiting in adults and adolescents (from 12 years and 35 kg).
2. WHAT INFORMATION SHOULD I KNOW BEFORE TAKING MOTILIUM 10 mg film-coated tablet?
Do not take MOTILIUM 10 mg film-coated tablet :
- if you are allergic to domperidone or to any of the other ingredients contained in Domperidone, mentioned in section 6.
- if you have stomach bleeding or if you regularly have severe abdominal pain or persistent black stools ;
- if you have blocked or perforated intestines ;
- if you have a pituitary gland tumor (prolactinoma) ;
- if you have moderate or severe liver disease ;
- if your ECG (electrocardiogram) shows a heart problem called "corrected QT interval prolongation ;
- if you have or have had a problem that causes your heart to not be able to pump blood throughout your body as well as it should (a condition called heart failure) ;
- if you have a problem that causes a decrease in the level of potassium or magnesium or an increase in the level of potassium in your blood ;
- ·if you are taking certain medicines (see "Other medicines and MOTILIUM 10 mg film-coated tablet").
Warnings and precautions
Talk to your doctor before taking MOTILIUM if you :
- *suffer from liver problems (failure of liver functions or liver failure) (see "Never take MOTILIUM 10 mg film-coated tablet") ;
- *suffer from kidney problems (failure of kidney functions or kidney failure). You should ask your doctor for advice in case of prolonged treatment because you may need to take a lower dose or take Domperidone less often and your doctor may have to examine you regularly.
Domperidone may be associated with an increased risk of heart rhythm disorder and cardiac arrest. This risk may be higher in patients over 60 years of age or in those taking doses higher than 30 mg per day. The risk is also higher when domperidone is administered with certain medications. Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking medicines to treat infections (fungal or bacterial infections) and/or if you have heart problems or AIDS (see section "Other medicines and MOTILIUM 10 mg film-coated tablet").
MOTILIUM should be used at the lowest effective dose.
During treatment with MOTILIUM, contact your doctor if you experience heart rhythm disturbances, such as palpitations, difficulty breathing, loss of consciousness. Treatment with MOTILIUM will then have to be stopped.
Children and adolescents weighing less than 35 kg
MOTILIUM should not be given to adolescents over the age of 12 and weighing less than 35 kg, nor to children under the age of 12 because it is not effective for these age groups.
Other medicines and MOTILIUM 10 mg, film-coated tablet
Never take MOTILIUM if you are taking medicines to treat the following conditions :
- fungal infections, for example pentamidine or azole antifungals, in particular itraconazole, oral ketoconazole, fluconazole, posaconazole or voriconazole ;
- bacterial infections, especially erythromycin, clarithromycin, telithromycin, levofloxacin, moxifloxacin, spiramycin (these are antibiotics) ;
- heart problems or high blood pressure (for example amiodarone, dronedarone, ibutilide, disopyramide, dofetilide, sotalol, hydroquinidine, quinidine) ;
- psychosis (e.g. haloperidol, pimozide, sertindole) ;
- depression (e.g. citalopram, escitalopram) ;
- gastrointestinal disorders (e.g. cisapride, dolasetron, prucalopride) ;
- allergy (e.g. mequitazine, mizolastine) ;
- malaria (in particular halofantrine, lumefantrine) ;
- HIV/AIDS such as ritonavir or saquinavir (these are protease inhibitors) ;
- hepatitis C (e.g. telaprevir) ;
Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking medication to treat an infection, heart problems, HIV/AIDS or Parkinson's disease.
Before you use MOTILIUM and apomorphine, your doctor will make sure that you tolerate both drugs when they are used simultaneously. Ask your doctor or specialist for personalized advice. Please refer to the apomorphine package leaflet.
It is important to ask your doctor or pharmacist if MOTILIUM is safe for you when you are taking other medicines, including over-the-counter medicines. MOTILIUM 10 mg, film-coated tablet with food and drinks.
Take MOTILIUM before meals. If it is taken after meals, its absorption is somewhat delayed.
Pregnancy and breastfeeding
The risk associated with taking MOTILIUM during pregnancy is not known.
If you are pregnant or think that you may be pregnant, consult your doctor who will decide if you can take MOTILIUM.
Small amounts of domperidone have been detected in breast milk. MOTILIUM can cause adverse effects on the heart of the breastfed infant. MOTILIUM should be used during breastfeeding only if your doctor considers it absolutely necessary. Ask your doctor for advice before taking cheap Domperidone. Driving vehicles and using machines.
Some patients have reported dizziness or drowsiness after taking MOTILIUM. Do not drive or use machinery when taking MOTILIUM, until you know the effect that MOTILIUM has on you.
MOTILIUM 10 mg film-coated tablet contains lactose.
Film-coated tablets contain lactose (a type of sugar). If your doctor has informed you of an intolerance to certain sugars, contact your doctor before taking cheap Domperidone.
Each domperidone film-coated tablet contains less than 1 mmol of sodium (23 mg) per dose, which means that it is essentially "sodium-free".
3. HOW TO TAKE MOTILIUM 10 mg film-coated tablet?
Follow these instructions strictly, unless your doctor tells you otherwise.
Take MOTILIUM before meals. If it is taken after meals, its absorption is somewhat delayed.
Duration of treatment
The symptoms usually disappear within 3 to 4 days of taking the drug. Do not take MOTILIUM for more than 7 days without consulting your doctor.
Adults and adolescents from 12 years and 35 kg
The usual dose is one tablet to be taken up to three times a day, if possible before meals. Take the tablet with water or other liquid. Do not chew the tablet. Do not take more than three tablets per day.
If you have used or taken too much MOTILIUM, contact your doctor, pharmacist or poison control center immediately. In case of an overdose, symptomatic treatment may be administered. Electrocardiographic monitoring may be initiated due to the possibility of the occurrence of a heart problem called QT prolongation.
Information for the doctor: careful monitoring and symptomatic treatment are recommended. An anti-cholinergic anti-parkinsonian treatment can help to neutralize extrapyramidal disorders.
Take your medicine as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, wait for that next dose, then continue as usual. Do not take a double dose to make up for the dose you forgot to take.
4. WHAT ARE THE POSSIBLE UNDESIRABLE EFFECTS?
Like all medicines, Domperidone can cause side effects, but not everybody gets them.
Uncommon (can affect up to 1 in 100 people) :
- *Involuntary movements of the face or arms and legs, excessive shaking, excessive muscle stiffness or muscle spasms
- *Convulsions
- *Cardiovascular system disorders: Heart rhythm disturbances (fast or irregular heartbeats) have been reported; if this is the case, you should stop treatment immediately. Domperidone may be associated with an increased risk of heart rhythm disturbances and cardiac arrest. This risk may be higher in patients over 60 years of age or in those taking doses higher than 30 mg per day. Domperidone should be used at the lowest effective dose.
Stop treatment with MOTILIUM and contact your doctor immediately if you experience any of the side effects described above.
Other side effects observed with MOTILIUM are listed below :
- Anxiety
- Agitation
- Nervousness
- Loss or decrease in interest in sex
- Headache
- Drowsiness
- Diarrhea
- Skin rash
- Itching
- Urticaria
- Painful or sensitive breasts
- Milk flow through the nipple
- General feeling of weakness
Dizzying sensations.
- Uncontrolled movements of the eyes, fixing them upwards
- Stopping menstruation in women
- Increase in breast volume in men
- Inability to urinate
- Changes in certain laboratory test results
- Restless legs syndrome (feeling of discomfort with an irresistible need to move your legs, and sometimes your arms and other parts of your body).
Some patients who have used MOTILIUM in conditions and at dosages requiring medical supervision have suffered the following adverse reactions :
Restlessness, swelling or increase in breast volume, unusual discharge from the breasts, irregular menstruation in women, difficulty breastfeeding, depression, hypersensitivity.

5. HOW TO STORE MOTILIUM 10 mg film-coated tablet?
Keep Domperidone out of the sight and reach of children.
Do not use Domperidone after the expiry date which is stated on the carton. The expiration date "EXP" refers to the last day of the indicated month. The first two digits indicate the month, the following the year.
Domperidone does not require any special storage conditions.
Do not throw any medicine down the drain or with household waste. Ask your pharmacist to dispose of medicines that you no longer use. These measures will help to protect the environment.
6. CONTENTS OF THE PACKAGE AND OTHER INFORMATION
What MOTILIUM 10 mg film-coated tablet contains
The active substance is : Domperidone 10 mg
The other components are : Lactose monohydrate, unmodified corn starch, microcrystalline cellulose, pregelatinized potato starch, povidone K90, magnesium stearate, hydrogenated cottonseed oil, sodium lauryl sulfate, hypromellose.
