On April 18, 2023, four members of the House Committee on Energy and Commerce introduced bipartisan legislation, the Supporting Safety Net Hospitals Act (H.R. 2665), which would eliminate $16 billion in Medicaid disproportionate share hospital (DSH) cuts in fiscal years 2024 and 2025. This constitutes two-thirds of all federal DSH dollars in those years.

Reps. Yvette Clarke (D-N.Y.), Dan Crenshaw (R-Texas), Diana DeGette (D-Colo.), and Michael Burgess (R-Texas) co-sponsored the bill.

In a statement, America’s Essential Hospitals praised the bill’s introduction and urged House members to safeguard health care access and lifesaving community services by supporting this legislation.
