Elliott Roberts, who chaired the America’s Essential Hospitals board of directors in 1982 and 1983, died Jan. 15 at age 90.

Roberts held several leadership roles at essential hospitals during his career, including at Charity Hospital, in New Orleans; Cook County Hospital, in Chicago; and NYC Health + Hospitals’ Harlem Hospital Center, in New York City. He also held leadership positions at the American Hospital Association, Louisiana Hospital Association, and Metropolitan Hospital Council of New Orleans and helped to form the National Association of Health Services Executives in 1968.

A native of Baltimore, Roberts dedicated his life to improving national health care policy and practice. Even after his retirement in 1994, Roberts continued to be an unerring advocate for health care equity and diversity, teaching for two decades at the Louisiana State University Medical School’s Department of Public Health and Preventive Medicine.
