In May, President Joe Biden announced his goal to have 70 percent of the U.S. adult population receive at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine by July 4. While some states are on track to meet this goal, others lag behind.
As of mid-June, several states have reached or surpassed the 70 percent vaccination mark, including: California, Connecticut, Hawaii, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, and Vermont.
Other states are close to reaching the 70 percent threshold by the July 4 deadline: Colorado, Colorado, Delaware, Illinois, Minnesota, New York, Oregon, Virginia, Washington state, and Washington, D.C.
Many other states are further behind. In particular, less than half the adult population in 15 states are vaccinated with at least one dose and it is unlikely they will reach the 70 percent threshold: Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Indiana, Idaho, Louisiana, Missouri, Mississippi, North Carolina, North Dakota, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, West Virginia, and Wyoming.
