States Respond to COVID-19: NGA Task Forces

January 26, 2021
Abigail Painchaud

The National Governors Association (NGA) on Jan. 20 announced creation of three task forces to coordinate and lead bipartisan state and territorial efforts to respond to COVID-19.

The task forces will replace NGA committees and allow governors to respond quickly and efficiently to the pandemic. Each task force is led by a pair of governors:

  • Pandemic and Disaster Response Task Force, led by Govs. Ned Lamont (D-CT) and Bill Lee (R-TN), will focus on Federal Emergency Management administration (FEMA), National Guard, cybersecurity, health care, and COVID-19 testing, vaccines, and more;
  • Economic Recovery and Revitalization Economic Task Force, led by Govs. Henry McMaster (R-SC) and Andy Beshear (D-KY), will focus on infrastructure, state stabilization, energy, environment, land management, and taxes; and
  • Community Renewal Task Force, led by Govs. Albert Bryan (D-USVI) and Mike Parson (R-MO), will focus on workforce, nutrition, education, criminal justice, agriculture, and broadband.

The task forces will work closely with NGA’s executive committee and will distribute information accordingly.
