Governors from six states — Louisiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Ohio, and Virginia — announced a bipartisan interstate compact to expand COVID-19 testing, stop the spread of the virus, and help state economies safely recover.
Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan (R) negotiated this band of states, which is the first of its kind and includes governors from three Republican and three Democratic states. Through this compact, with support from the Rockefeller Foundation, states will be able to more effectively demonstrate the need for increased rapid antigen testing from private manufacturers,
This interstate cooperative purchasing agreement will provide a unique platform to purchase tests and associated supplies in a sustainable and cost-effective manner. Additionally, the states will coordinate on policies and protocols regarding rapid antigen testing technology.
