Patient and Family Engagement Series IV – Patient- and Family-Centered Care at the Bedside

January 13, 2014
Maya Linson

This was the fourth webinar in the Essential Hospitals Engagement Network’s patient and family engagement webinar series, which focused on efforts in beside care.

Patient- and family-centered care has been cited as a tool for improving health care quality and the patient experience. Although many hospitals have started to incorporate the patient’s perspective into process redesign through patient and family advisory committees, bringing patient- and family-centered care to the bedside remains a challenge.

The advantages are clear: More than 70 percent of adverse events are caused by breakdowns in communication among caregivers and between caregivers and patients.

During this session Christiana Care Health Services discussed:

  • their successful implementation of bedside communication practices
  • how bedside interventions have improved the patient experience and nursing staff satisfaction; and
  • what opportunities and tools that can increase your odds of success.
