The Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ONC) announced $36.1 million in funding for grant opportunities to improve health care delivery through data access and health information interoperability. One grant will provide $28 million to leverage lessons learned from the original State Health Information Exchange Program. These funds will help accelerate the exchange of electronic health data to improve care. Another grant will provide $6.4 million to target health care worker training to use new health information technologies. An additional $1.7 million grant opportunity focuses on developing shared learning resources on population health challenges through the Community Health Peer Learning Program.
The ability to access data will allow hospitals to provide better care and improve patient outcomes. Letters of intent for these grant opportunities are due March 2, and applications are due April 6.
