The National Institutes of Health (NIH) has announced a new funding opportunity for projects researching patient safety improvements in the context of perinatal, neonatal, and pediatric care in routine hospital and intensive care settings.
The funding aims to address unique aspects of patient safety related to neonatology and pediatrics, such as:
- the epidemiology of various domains of medical errors;
- factors that contribute to such errors; and
- intervention strategies at individual, system, and institutional levels to reduce and eliminate medical errors.
Funded work will help develop strategies to deliver high-quality, safe, and effective care to newborns and children.
Applications may be submitted at any time, but standard cycle due dates apply. The first standard application due date for this effort is Oct. 5 at 5 pm local time of applicant organization. No strict budget guidelines are provided, but grantee budgets must reflect the needs of the proposed project for up to five years. NIH simultaneously released a companion, two-year opportunity for discrete, well-defined two-year projects.
