Members participating in the National Healthcare Safety Network (NHSN) must review and sign an updated Agreement to Participate and Consent by April 14 to retain access to the network.
Through the NHSN, health care facilities can see their data in real-time and share that information with clinicians and facility leadership, as well as health departments, quality improvement organizations, and other partners. Additionally, facilities can use the NHSN to comply with the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services’ infection reporting requirements.
The agreement between the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and participating health care facilities includes a list of the NHSN’s purposes and an assurance of confidentiality for reported data.
CDC on Jan. 30 sent a notice to NHSN facility administrators and primary contacts about the updated agreement. The agency also released an instructional video that guides administrators through the review process.
Facilities that fail meet the April 14 deadline will be suspended from accessing the NHSN until the facility administrator or primary contact accepts the agreement.
