WASHINGTON – “Today’s sequestration report from the White House provides a sobering outlook for federal health programs and services.

“As the administration correctly points out, these cuts will cause significant harm to core government functions, including protecting the safety and health of our people. Domestic cuts – in particular, an $11 billion reduction in Medicare spending—will strain safety net hospitals and health systems, which already face dwindling federal and state Medicaid support for their care of the uninsured and underinsured.

“We urge leaders to work together toward responsible solutions to the deficit challenge that honor society’s obligation to care for its most vulnerable people.”
