CMS Announces Innovation Award Recipients

July 14, 2014

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) announced a second batch of prospective recipients for round 2 of the Health Care Innovation Awards. CMS named 27 new prospective recipients, including these members of America’s Essential Hospitals:

Prospective awards for the recipients range from $2 million to $23.8 million over a three-year period, totaling approximately $250 million. These recipients are in addition to an initial batch of potential recipients for round 2 funding, released in late May. America’s Essential Hospitals members New York City Health and Hospitals Corporation and the Regents of the University of California San Francisco were announced as potential recipients at that time.

Overall, the 39 prospective recipients from both batches of round 2 span 27 states and the District of Columbia. They will receive up to $360 million to reduce costs and improve care delivery models for people enrolled in Medicare, Medicaid, and the Children’s Health Insurance Program. Funding for these awards comes from the Affordable Care Act; awards will be finalized later this summer.
