Population Health: Housing as Health Care

Date: Wednesday, August 8, 2018

Time: 2:00 PM ET

Housing is a key social determinant of health, and housing instability — a significant indicator of health outcomes — can present in different ways: having difficulty paying rent, spending more than 50 percent of household income on housing, moving frequently, living in overcrowded conditions, or doubling up with friends and relatives.

Participants learned how two essential hospitals — Truman Medical Centers, in Kansas City, Mo., and JPS Health Network, in Fort Worth, Texas — tackle housing instability. Participants discovered their novel approaches to housing as health care for patients and local communities and heard the promising outcomes these innovative programs produce.
