Navigating the Opioid Crisis at Essential Hospitals

The federal government has declared the opioid crisis a national emergency, and essential hospitals find themselves on the front lines as they respond to waves of deadly opioid overdoses. Participants heard how two health systems responded to this public health crisis, and learned how thier hospital can work to curb opioid abuse.

Chris Hendry, chief medical officer at Navicent Health, shared how his health system responded to a wave of deadly synthetic opioid overdoses earlier this year. Rita Andolsen, director of communications at The MetroHealth System, shared how the health system teamed with community partners to launch Know the Rx, a public awareness campaign to curb opioid use in Cuyahoga County.
