Eskenazi Health’s Pain School offers science-based, mind-body interventions that focus on education, distraction, mindfulness, a graduated exercise regimen, and relaxation training. Participants attend a five-week course that includes 90-minute sessions twice a week. These groups naturally engender camaraderie and support, while decreasing the isolation that patients with chronic pain often feel.
Eskenazi Health’s approach couples psychological and physical functional rehabilitation, using the patient’s strengths and values to help them develop goals and coping skills. Participants set goals that incorporate new skills learned and practiced during the program. This triggers a shift in the locus of control more toward the participant, reducing pain and enhancing meaningful function.
