$67 Million for Marketplace Navigators Available from CMS

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has announced funding to support navigators in federally facilitated and state partnership health insurance marketplaces (exchanges). CMS has made $67 million available for the first year of funding. Funds will be distributed annually, contingent on navigators fulfilling program requirements and funding availability. The programs themselves may extend for up to three years, which CMS hopes will increase financial stability for grantees. Additionally, CMS hopes this stability will lead to greater efficiency of funds, as navigators and their organizations will not need to rebuild capacity each year.

Navigators play a large role in helping people shop for and enroll in coverage through the marketplaces and public insurance programs, including Medicaid and the Children’s Health Insurance Program.

New and returning organizations and navigators should submit applications by June 15. Contact Beth Feldpush, DrPH, senior vice president of policy and advocacy, at bfeldpush@essentialhospitals.org or 202.585.0111 with questions.
