NCHL to Recognize Member CEO and Health System

Henry Ford Health System CEO Nancy M. Schlichting will be honored Nov. 20, 2014, as a co-recipient of the Gail L. Warden Leadership Excellence Award by the National Center for Healthcare Leadership (NCHL). NCHL will present the award during its 2014 Human Capital Investment Conference, Nov. 20 to 21, in Chicago. NCHL also will honor America’s Essential Hospitals member Lee Memorial Health System and 18 other hospitals and health systems as inaugural Best Organizations for Leadership Development, or BOLD. Glenn Steele Jr., MD, PhD, president and CEO of Geisinger Health System, will share the Gail L. Warden Leadership Excellence Award with Schlichting.

 

America’s Essential Hospitals Recognized for Rebranding, Website

America’s Essential Hospitals recently won honorable mentions in two Ragan’s Health Care PR and Marketing Awards categories for 2014. The awards, presented annually by media company Ragan Communications Inc., recognize advances in health care marketing and creative and innovative communications.

America’s Essential Hospitals received an honorable mention in the Best Marketing category for its 2013 rebranding campaign and, in particular, a member photo contest leading up to the brand launch. The association also won an honorable mention for Best Website. Two association member hospitals also won honorable mentions in the awards competition: the University of Utah Health Care, for Best Blog and Best Marketing Video; and Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children, for Best Marketing Video.

 

Siegel Among 100 Most Influential People in Health Care

For a fourth straight year, Bruce Siegel, MD, MPH, president and CEO of America’s Essential Hospitals, has been chosen as one of the 100 Most Influential People in Healthcare by editors and readers of Modern Healthcare magazine. The award honors individuals in health care deemed by their peers and an expert panel to be the most influential individuals in the industry, in terms of leadership and impact. Siegel placed 69th out of the 100 people named to the list. The magazine also recognized Siegel recently as one of the nation’s Top 25 Minority Executives in Healthcare (see story below).

 

Magazine Honors Siegel as a Top Minority Executive

Bruce Siegel, MD, MPH, president and CEO of America’s Essential Hospitals, recently was honored as one of the nation’s Top 25 Minority Executives in Healthcare by Modern Healthcare magazine. Senior editors at the publication chose Siegel and other award winners based on five criteria: success serving as an organization or company leader or manager; ability or power to effect industry change; demonstrated willingness to share expertise with others in the field; status as a role model or mentor to other minority health care executives; and leadership outside of the candidate’s own organization or company. Since coming to AEH, Siegel also has been named three times by Modern Healthcare as one of the 100 Most Influential People in Healthcare and three times as one of the nation’s 50 Most Influential Physician Executives.

 

America’s Essential Hospitals Welcomes a New Member

America’s Essential Hospitals is pleased to welcome to its membership the not-for-profit United Medical Center (UMC), a government-owned hospital that serves southeast Washington, DC, and surrounding Maryland communities. Formerly Greater Southeast Community Hospital, UMC took its new name in 2008 after a change of ownership and significant investments in capital renovations and technology upgrades. Its vision, in partnership with its medical staff, is to promote a healthy community through positive patient experiences, wellness programs, health education, and career training opportunities, while building strategic relationships.

New Leadership for Essential Hospitals Institute

America’s Essential Hospitals has announced that David Engler, PhD, senior vice president for leadership and innovation, has assumed a new role overseeing all the association’s research and quality activities through its Essential Hospitals Institute. Engler joined America’s Essential Hospitals in June 2013 to lead the association’s Transformation Center. His experience lies in industry quality improvement and safety initiatives and he is nationally recognized for performance improvement and clinical informatics solutions. Learn more

 

President and CEO Siegel Among ‘Most Powerful People in Health Care’

Becker’s Hospital Review recognized association President and CEO Bruce Siegel, MD, MPH, in its list “50 of the Most Powerful People in Health Care.” The trade publication describes the honorees as “50 of the most powerful people who have shaped policy, thoughts, operations and management in health care.” Read more
